Teria Johnson

CEO/Charleston Kitchen

Charleston Kitchen - Home of Sweet & Savory Mini PIes.  Our Peach Bourbon Sweet Potato Pie & our Seafood Quiche Mini Pie are two of our most poplar pies.  The Peach Bourbon Sweet Potato Pie is the cornerstone of our business.  It is one of my family’s favorite dishes. It is actually the main reason we exist today.  The pie is the booster of the entire operation. It was the love and laughter that our family shared eating the pie that got us here today. The seafood is a huge part of our Charleston culture.

It is our hope that the love from our pies bring joy and sets the atmosphere for a lot of laughter. But most importantly, we hope our pies allow you to share special times with family and create meaningful memories. We spent a lot of Sunday dinners and weekend cookouts with family & friends; and, food, fun & laughter was the recipe for a great time.  Every bite of our food is filled with love and true reflection of our Gullah Geechee culture.

Hope you enjoy all of our pies as much as we do.  Look forward to seeing you at the Charleston Kitchen real soon!

From my family to yours,

Teria

Charleston to Houston

Moving to Texas over 26 years ago, I had no idea that Texas would become my new home. But, let me introduce you to the first place I called home, Charleston, South Carolina.  We cherish everything from food and culture to family.

A city rich in culture…everything from basket weaving, seafood, beaches, history and much more. A native Charlestonian will always carry their culture & rich history no matter where they reside.  The owner of Charleston Kitchen wants you to experience their love for their culture and southern hospitality.  Some of our favorite foods, include: Red Rice, Fried Fish, Frogmore Stew, Okra Soup, Lima Beans, Collard Greens, Fried Chicken and much, much, more.  For now, we want you to enjoy some of our good ole’ sweetness in our Peach Bourbon Sweet Potato Pie.  Yeap, I said it!

Its Where Houston meets Charleston!

From Generation to Generation

Baking and cooking is something we attribute to our grandmother.  She baked from scratch and loved to cook for her family.  Some of my fondest memories as a child were on Saturday mornings when my grandmother prepared some type of treat. Two of my favorite treats were homemade blueberry cobbler and her homemade breakfast drink made with yogurt, wheat germs, fresh fruits and pineapple juice. Today, we know it as Smoothies. And, let’s not forget those late night snacks where everyone said, “I feel like something.” That something normally resulted in my grandmother cooking something quick and delicious.  Truth be told, our family's legacy of cooking and baking began with this lady right here.  And because of her, Charleston Kitchen attributes our love for cooking and baking to her.  If I were to make up a recipe to describe my grandmother, Clara Jones, our Matriarch, it would look something like this:

CLARA’S RECIPE FOR FOOD,
FAMILY & LOVE

ADD:

  • 3 Cups of HEART - She cooked three (3) hot meals a day for her family

  • 7 Teaspoons of FAMILY - Fed her husband, daughter, grandchildren, great-grands, church family, neighbors and friends

  • 1 Cup of LOVE - Food was flavorful, rich, and seasoned with LOVE

  • 1 Cup of SKILLS - Her brother Elijah once said, “Clara can make butts meat taste good”

  • 1 Stick of SERVICE - Cooked with the Church Missionary Board hosting chicken dinners

  • 1 Cup of ENTREPRENEURSHIP - Sold “Chilly Bears," a frozen fruit cup and ice cream cones, out of her home

  • 2 Cups of HOSPITALITY - First question asked when you walk into her home, “Would you like something to eat?”  She always said, "I just made a fresh pot of…  LOL!"

  • 10 Cups of JOY - For almost a year on Sundays, she fed several Cadets from The Citadel, a military college in Charleston, SC

  • 3 Pkgs. of GOODNESS - Neighbors and friends were always welcome to enjoy a meal at our house

  • 1 Cup of BLESSINGS - Fed the local pastor and his family

  • 1 Cup of COMPASSION - Made room in our home to provide shelter for family members & fed the homeless

  • 1 Cup of PRAISE - She sang in the church choir for years.

  • 1 Cup of JESUS - Succumbed a long and diminishing battle with Alzheimer's

MIX WELL Our grandmother’s legacy lives on through Charleston Kitchen LLC

LIFELONG LEGACY - Passed the torch of cooking, food, family, service & LOVE to her granddaughter Teria
